Southdown nominated the Sussex Partnership Trust's Vocational Leads for the coveted Challenging Stigma Award at the recent staff awards ceremony for the Trust. The award recognises those who have addressed stigma in the course of their work. The winners were Kate Bones, Director of Occupational Therapy, Debbie Rimmer (East Sussex lead), Lucy Locks (West Sussex lead), Annette Kidd (Brighton and Hove lead). Southdown are delighted to announce their receipt of the British Safety Council's International Safety Award for 2009. In order to win this prestigious award, an organisation must demonstrate that it has comprehensive health and safety policies in place, as well as a commitment from the shopfloor to the boardroom to a positive safety culture and the adoption of behaviours that have safe and healthy working practices at their heart. Providing workers with the necessary skills and competence to ensure risks to health and safety are properly controlled is vital too.

Bradbury Court - a unique development on National Trust land near the village of Washington in West Sussex - is a converted barn and outbuildings that have been tastefully designed to provide eight individual apartments for people with physical and learning disabilities. All the apartment occupants are also shared owners. The landlord function is provided by The Lorica Trust and the support contract is being taken over by Southdown from MiLife, a social enterprise.
