Who better to help you through a tough time than someone who has overcome similar problems in life? - this is the central idea behind ‘Peer2Peer’, an innovative and ground-breaking peer support service that Southdown have developed in Brighton and Hove, in partnership with BHT.

The Peer2Peer service, commissioned in April 2007 by the Brighton and Hove Supporting People Team, assists service users to work and learn together, to problem-solve, and to develop practical skills and coping strategies for their continued independence. We also assist our service users to develop their own social networks and play an active role in the wider community.

Peer2Peer offers a weekly ‘menu’ of support activities for our service users to pick and choose from, including drop-in advice sessions, telephone advice sessions, practical ‘self-advocacy’ workshops, and social activities. We also provide support out of hours via our own Peer2Peer online group, and publish a regular newsletter.

Support is co-ordinated by 2 paid employees, although the majority of support is provided by a team of trained peer support volunteers, who are current or former service users themselves.
