Home Works Service - Short Term Support for Long Term Independence

Southdown deliver the new East Sussex generic floating support service "HomeWorks" across all of East Sussex.  The goals of the service are to help people achieve the Communities and Local Government department’s desired outcomes which are:

  • Achieve economic wellbeing
  • Enjoy life and achieve ambitions
  • Make a positive contribution to their community 
  • Better manage their physical health and emotional wellbeing 
  • Stay safe 

Who is the service for?

Home Works is for anyone aged 16 to 64, who needs help and support around housing and lives in East Sussex. This includes single people, couples and families.

You may need help, for example because:

  • You have mortgage, rent arrears or debt problems
  • You are at risk of becoming homeless, or are homeless
  • You are setting up home for the first time
  • You are suffering from or at risk of domestic violence
  • You have drug or alcohol problems
  • You have recently had a relationship breakdown or bereavement or any other reason that places your accommodation at risk

What can we help you with?

  • Help to understand your tenancy or mortgage responsibilities
  • Helping with budgeting or claiming welfare benefits, including filling in forms
  • Help with contacting your landlord or your mortgage company
  • Accompaniment to appointments as required
  • Help to speak up for yourself, such as advocacy support
  • Support to access training, education, voluntary and paid work
  • Help to find out about and get in touch with other services in your local community
  • Help with settling into your home and setting up gas/electricity/water supply
  • Help to resolve neighbour disputes
  • Help with court proceedings, tribunals and appeal hearings
  • Help to plan goals and aims for the future
  • Help to find suitable accommodation including relocating to a new area

Home Works information leaflets and the Team

We subscribe to Language Line, which gives us access to interpreters covering 200 languages via the telephone. We can provide information in a variety of formats.
