Schemes

Southdown provides a range of accommodation and support services across East and West Sussex and Brighton and Hove.

  1. Independent Living Schemes (ILS)
In Horsham, Crawley, Eastbourne, Wealden, Chichester, Lewes, Worthing and Brighton.

Under our ILS schemes, accommodation is leased to Southdown by local authorities or registered social landlords. We then sub-lease these properties to people whose special needs are registered with the local authority’s Housing Department.

ILS schemes predominantly provide support for people with mental health issues or learning disabilities. Each tenant receives a flexible level of support, dependent on need, which averages two hours per week.

  2. Wealden Floating Support Service
This floating support service provides assistance for vulnerable tenants within Wealden District Council’s general housing stock. The majority of these tenants are users of mental health services.

  3. Eastbourne Floating Support Service
This floating support service provides assistance for vulnerable tenants within Eastbourne District Council’s general housing stock. Most tenants are mental health service users.

  4. Brighton Floating Support Scheme
Brighton and Hove City Council lease Southdown 63 properties so we can provide supporting housing for vulnerable tenants with a variety of support needs. We work in partnership with Hove YMCA to provide specialist support for young tenants. Each of the 63 tenants receives a support package of between two and five hours per week.

  5. Adur Floating Support Scheme
This scheme provides support for the tenants of other housing providers who need help to maintain their tenancies.

  6. West Sussex Supported Living Scheme
Working in partnership with West Sussex Social and Caring Services (WSSCS), we provide a supported housing management service for 35 tenants with learning disabilities. Tenancy support and personal care is provided by WSSCS.

  7. Homelessness Prevention - The West Sussex Signpost Service
This service, providing guidance, information, advice and floating support and can help anyone aged 16 or over, whether they are tenants, home-owners, at risk of becoming homeless or already homeless.

The service currently runs across Horsham and Mid Sussex including Steyning, East Grinstead, Cowfold, Burgess Hill, Horsham and Haywards Heath. The service for the Worthing and Adur area has been launched from 5th November 2007.
