Heavy Load are a punk band made up of Southdown service users and staff. They are also the stars of the award winning documentary feature film ‘Heavy Load’.
"Their version of Kylie’s ‘Can’t get you out of my head’ is frankly awesome!" (Mark Kermode, BBC Film 24).
Their 'gigs' have seen them travel as far as New York, Berlin, Denmark and Glastonbury in 2009.
They also play regularly around the UK and toured Scotland in 2010.
Heavy Load provided the theme tune for Channel 4's 2009 hit drama series "Cast Offs" and were described by the The Sunday Times Style Magazine as: "The most important punk band playing in the UK today."
They are currently working on their third album which is due to be released in Autumn 2011.
The band are also the creators of the Stay Up Late campaign - www.stayuplate.org - a campaign seeking to improve the social lives of people with learning difficulties by calling for more flexible staff hours. For more details, please contact Paul Richards at p.richards@southdownhousing.org
