Supported Employment Service
Learning to Work Team
Learning to work is a project initially running from June 2006 – March 2008. It aims to support people who have learning difficulties into work. It does this by:
- Undertaking individual assessments
- Identifying new learning needs in six-weekly Individual Learning Plans
- Providing accredited work preparation learning and travel training
- Job seeking and coaching.
- Individualised training in work environments with six-weekly reviews
The emphasis of the project is on providing additional learning to college courses, with a view to obtaining work. Work can be part-time, full-time, paid or voluntary. Benefits advice is given before any job-searching. People do not have to do a qualification – they can access the job coaching separately (subject to assessment and vocational profiling).
We are working closely with the West Sussex colleges to target people who wish to progress from college into paid or voluntary work. However, places are also available to people if they:
- Have a learning disability
- Are aged 19+
- Have not been beneficiaries of ESF funding within 12 months of starting Learning to Work.
Learning to Work is a partnership between the Aldingbourne Trust (WorkAid team), Southdown Housing Association (Breakaway team), Chichester College, West Sussex County Council and the Learning Skills Network. We work closely with Job Centre Plus, Connexions and Northbrook and Central Sussex Colleges.
