depends on the skills of our staff. That’s why our award-winning
training team provide a range of learning and development opportunities
for every person who works for us. Through that specialised training,
we make sure staff have the skills they need to support people
with disabilities, and to help them live the lives they choose.

What
we do
We are experienced in tailoring our training
to meet the needs of individual staff and services. Most importantly,
we are also skilled in helping staff use what they learn so it
has a positive impact on the people we support.
Our training and learning support for staff
focuses on best practice and reflects the strong values that Southdown
holds. Our trainers are experienced practitioners and managers
and our training is shaped by our experience of providing high
quality support – it is based on what we know works.
What we provide
Our training team provides:
- Workshops and seminars to support good practice
in care, supported housing and supported employment (including
learning disabilities and mental health) – from induction
to more advanced courses
- Coaching, mentoring and individual study
plans to meet learning and development needs
- Personal and professional development workshops
- Management development for managers and
supervisors
Southdown’s training meets Skills for
Care induction standards and enables staff to achieve National
Vocational Qualifications and housing qualifications.
Training for other
organisations
Much of our training is open to outside organisations
and we can also run bespoke training for external agencies.
We have a learning disability training programme

Consultancy work
We run a business consultancy service and can
provide support and guidance on a range of issues, including:
- Service development and change
- Different housing and support options
- Meeting regulatory requirements
- Supporting People compliance (including
outcome monitoring and development planning)
- Business planning
- Human resource management
- Person-centred approaches – meeting
individual needs creatively
- Active support (for people with a learning
disability)
